🎯Quick Answer: How Big Is the Industrial Duct for Dust Collection Market?
Global estimates run from about $4.2 billion (2024) to $4.5 billion (2025), growing roughly 7% a year toward $8.9 billion by 2035 (Market Research Future, August 2026). North American estimates are far narrower: $250-$306 million (SkyQuest, Grand View Research). The 5x gap is scope, not demand. Bare fabricated duct is counted in one report, while another adds fittings, hose, hoods and installation. For buyers, the real 2026 drivers are NFPA 660 (effective Dec 6, 2024), OSHA's combustible dust NEP (CPL 03-00-008), and 50% Section 232 tariffs on imported steel duct at full customs value since April 6, 2026.
Search "industrial duct for dust collection market" and page one is paid research landing pages. Each one quotes a headline number and a CAGR, then asks for $4,000 to show you the rest. None of them tells a plant engineer what a foot of 6-inch duct costs, why a competitor quoted galvanized when the spec said stainless, or whether the new consolidated combustible dust standard means the PVC hose on the sander has to come out.
We manufacture and stock flexible duct and industrial hose in Brookshire, Texas, and dust collection is the fastest-changing part of our order book. So this page covers the market the way our customers see it: the published numbers and why they conflict, the demand drivers that actually generate purchase orders, and the per-foot pricing no report publishes.
What the Market Reports Say
Here is every publicly quoted headline figure we could find for this exact market name, as of September 2026. We read the free summaries, not the paid PDFs, which is what almost every buyer and journalist is doing too.

| Source | Geography | Base Value | Forecast | CAGR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Market Research Future (Aug 2026 update) | Global | $4.22B (2024) $4.52B (2025) | $8.94B (2035) | 7.06% |
| Market Research Future (earlier edition) | Global | $3.44B (2022) | $6.8B (2032) | ~7.06% |
| Emergen Research (report since retired) | United States | $1.5B (2024) | $2.8B (2034) | 6.5% |
| Grand View Research | North America | n/a in summary | $305.9M (2030) | n/a |
| SkyQuest | North America | $250.2M (2022) | ~$305M (2030, implied) | 2.5% |
For context, the parent market, industrial dust collector equipment, is sized at about $9.1-$10.0 billion in 2025 (Mordor Intelligence: $9.14B, growing 4.86% to $11.59B by 2030; other firms put 2025 at $9.2B-$10.0B). Keep that number in mind. It is the easiest way to sanity-check any duct figure.
Why the Numbers Disagree by 5x
Emergen's US-only figure ($1.5B) is 4.9 times Grand View's figure for all of North America six years later ($305.9M). Both cannot describe the same thing. After reading the scope notes, we think three differences explain most of the gap.
1. What counts as "duct"
The narrow reports behave like they count fabricated rigid duct sold into dust collection projects and nothing else. The wide reports behave like they count the whole air path from hood to collector inlet: duct, elbows, wyes, blast gates, flexible hose, clamps, hoods and often installation labor. Market Research Future's 2025 global figure of $4.52B equals 45-50% of the entire dust collector equipment market. Bare duct is nowhere near that share of a project in our quoting experience. A basket that includes fittings, hose and install labor can be.
2. Top-down modeling
SkyQuest's methodology note says its figure was derived by segment aggregation from a broader "Environmental & Facilities Services" category. Compounding its $250.2M (2022) at its own 2.5% CAGR gives about $304.8M in 2030, within 0.4% of Grand View's $305.9M. Two firms agreeing to the decimal is more likely a shared model lineage than independent confirmation.
3. Growth rate vs. size
The growth rates cluster more tightly than the sizes. The reports sit at 2.5%, 6.5% and 7.06%, and the parent collector market is at 4.6-7.4%. If you are using a report to justify capacity or inventory, use the growth rate and ignore the size. Better still, use your own quote log.
| Scope Item | Narrow Reports (~$0.3B NA) | Wide Reports ($1.5B US / $4.5B global) |
|---|---|---|
| Straight rigid duct (spiral, clamp-together) | Yes | Yes |
| Fittings, wyes, blast gates | Likely partial | Likely |
| Flexible hose (PU, PVC, fabric) | Likely excluded | Likely |
| Hoods, enclosures, explosion isolation | No | Sometimes |
| Installation labor | No | Sometimes |
Scope columns are our reading of each firm's public summary and methodology notes, not the paid report text. Confirm scope with the publisher before citing a figure in a business case.
2025-2026 Demand Drivers That Create Orders
Every report lists "stringent regulations" and "manufacturing growth" as drivers. That's true but too vague to act on. These are the specific events that have turned into purchase orders on our side since 2024:
| Driver | Date | What It Changes in the Duct Spec |
|---|---|---|
| NFPA 660 (consolidates NFPA 61, 484, 652, 654, 655, 664) | Effective Dec 6, 2024 | One standard and one Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) framework for all combustible dusts. DHAs push conductive, bonded duct and grounded anti-static hose. |
| OSHA Combustible Dust NEP, CPL 03-00-008 (revised) | Jan 2023 (replaced 2008 directive) | Targeted inspections of dust-handling plants. State Plans must participate. Citations typically lead to hose replacement and grounding fixes. |
| Section 232 metals tariffs to 50% | Jun 4, 2025 | Imported sheet, spiral duct and fittings cost more. Buyers shorten rigid runs and re-quote domestic. |
| Section 232 derivative expansion (407 categories) | Aug 18, 2025 | More fabricated metal components are pulled into the 50% tariff. |
| Section 232 on full customs value | Apr 6, 2026 | 50% now applies to the full value of chapter 72 and most chapter 73 goods, not just the metal content. Imported steel duct assemblies take the biggest hit. |
| Battery, EV and electronics plant build-out | Ongoing | Fine, often combustible or conductive dusts. Specs call for smooth-bore anti-static hose and stainless or coated duct. |
The practical takeaway: much of today's demand is retrofit, not new build. A DHA or an NEP inspection rarely replaces a whole duct system. It replaces the non-conductive hose at machine drops, adds bonding jumpers, and fixes runs that settle out. That's why flexible, grounded hose is growing faster in our order book than the "galvanized steel dominates" line in the report summaries would suggest. Our anti-static duct guide covers the grounding details.

Rigid Duct vs Flexible Hose: Where the Spend Goes
A dust collection system is mostly rigid duct by footage. Mains and branches should be smooth-wall metal, because flexible hose has 2-4x the friction loss per foot of smooth rigid duct and is harder to keep at transport velocity. Transport velocity is typically 3,500-4,500 fpm depending on the dust (ACGIH Industrial Ventilation manual). Flexible hose belongs in the last few feet at each machine, where things move, vibrate or get disconnected.
But footage isn't spend. Rigid duct is bought once. Hose at machine drops is a wear part. It abrades, gets run over by forklifts and gets replaced at every layout change. Over a system's life, the small share of footage that is hose makes up a much larger share of the recurring purchase orders. That's the part of the market the reports blur together.
| Duct Type | Where It Belongs | Buying Pattern | 2026 Trend |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galvanized spiral / clamp-together duct | Mains and branches | Project, once | Imported cost up (Section 232) |
| Stainless duct | Food, pharma, corrosive, wash-down | Project, once | Growing share, highest cost |
| PU hose (clear, wire helix) | Machine drops, abrasive dust | Recurring wear part | Growing, replaces PVC |
| Anti-static PU hose | Combustible dust drops | Retrofit after DHA / NEP | Fastest growing |
| PVC hose (wire helix) | Light, non-combustible, non-abrasive dust | Price-driven | Losing combustible-dust work |

Polyurethane is about 3x more abrasion-resistant than PVC in our testing, rated -22°F to +176°F (-30°C to +80°C), and available in 1-16 inch diameters. That abrasion gap is why PU keeps taking share at machine drops even though it costs more per foot. See our PU flexible hose specifications and the full industrial flexible duct for dust collection guide for material-by-material data.
2026 Price Per Foot by Duct Type
This is the table the market reports leave out. Hose figures are our factory-direct ranges at 500+ ft per size, FOB Brookshire, TX, September 2026. The rigid duct reference is a published US retail list price.
| Product | 4" | 6" | 8" | 12" |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PVC hose, steel wire helix | $1.40-$1.90 | $2.20-$2.90 | $3.10-$4.00 | $5.60-$7.20 |
| PU hose, standard wall (0.6-0.9 mm) | $2.60-$3.40 | $3.90-$5.10 | $5.40-$7.00 | $9.50-$12.50 |
| PU hose, heavy wall (1.2-1.5 mm) | $4.20-$5.50 | $6.30-$8.20 | $8.80-$11.40 | $15.00-$19.50 |
| Anti-static PU hose | Standard or heavy wall PU + 15-25% | |||
| Galvanized spiral pipe, 26 ga G90 (retail list, material only) | — | ~$12.37 | — | — |
Spiral reference: 6" diameter, 26 gauge G90 galvanized spiral pipe, 8-ft length, listed at $98.93 at a major US online HVAC retailer, September 2026. Dust collection mains are usually heavier gauge (24-20 ga) and priced higher. Contractor pricing from a sheet metal shop will be well below retail list. Hose prices exclude freight and clamps. See the ducting hose accessories guide for clamp and connector pricing.
⚠️The Cheapest Foot Is Rarely the Cheapest System
PVC hose at a machine drop saves about $1.70-$2.20 per foot over standard PU in 6-inch. If abrasive dust wears through it three times as fast, you buy it three times. On a combustible-dust line it can also be the finding that fails your DHA. Price per foot per year of service, not per foot.
Imported vs Domestic: The Tariff Math
We deliberately don't publish a single "total duty" number here. Tariff layers on metal goods changed at least three times between June 2025 and April 2026, and a page that hard-codes today's rate will be confidently wrong in six months. What stays stable is how to work it out:
| Product | Usual HTS Chapter | Section 232 Metals Tariff | What to Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steel spiral duct, fittings | Ch. 73 (steel articles) | Yes: 50% on full value since Apr 6, 2026 | Exact 10-digit code, country of melt and pour |
| Flat galvanized sheet | Ch. 72 | Yes: 50% | Applies to imported coil used by domestic fabricators too |
| PU / PVC hose with wire helix | Ch. 39 (HTS 3917) | Outside the 232 metal chapters | MFN rate plus any country-specific duties (e.g., Section 301) |
| Domestic stock (any type) | n/a | No import duty at purchase | Lead time and freight vs. 4-6 week ocean transit |
The method: look up the 10-digit code at hts.usitc.gov, check the Chapter 99 notes for any additional duties that apply to that code and origin, read the latest CBP CSMS guidance, and get your customs broker to confirm the total rate in writing for the week you ship. For flexible hose, the bigger swing factor is usually lead time. Stock from Texas arrives in days, while an ocean container takes 4-6 weeks plus port time. A DHA deadline doesn't wait for a container.
Demand by Industry: What Each Buyer Specifies
SkyQuest segments North American demand into food, pharmaceutical, cement, welding, woodworking, steel, semiconductors, batteries, asphalt and chemical. Here is what those segments actually order from a hose manufacturer:
| Industry | Typical Duct / Hose Spec | Common Mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Woodworking, cabinet, furniture | Galvanized mains, anti-static PU drops 4-8" | PVC hose on a combustible wood-dust line |
| Metal grinding, welding fume | Heavier-gauge steel, heavy-wall PU or high-temp fabric hose | Standard PU near sparks and hot slag |
| Food, grain, pharmaceutical | Stainless mains, FDA-grade PU hose | Non-food-grade hose where product contact occurs |
| Battery, electronics, semiconductors | Smooth-bore anti-static hose, bonded joints | Broken ground path at fabric or rubber joints |
| Cement, asphalt, minerals | Abrasion-resistant heavy-wall PU, wear-back elbows | Thin-wall hose worn through within months |
| Plastics, pellets, bulk conveying | Clear PU material handling hose | Sagging runs that settle material |
Pellet and bulk transfer overlaps heavily with dust collection hose. The material handling duct guide covers conveying-specific specs. For system layout and sizing by machine, see our dust collection duct and hose guide and the industrial dust collection ducting system design guide.
How to Use This Data When You Buy
- Don't size a business case on a market report headline. Pick the report whose scope matches what you sell or buy, and use its growth rate, not its size.
- Start from your DHA, not a catalog. Under NFPA 660 the DHA decides where conductive duct and grounded hose are mandatory. Order to the punch list.
- Separate project items from wear items. Bid rigid duct per project. Put hose, clamps and connectors on a blanket order or stocking agreement, because you will reorder them.
- Price per year of service. Heavy-wall PU at a sander drop usually beats PVC on total cost even at nearly twice the price per foot.
- Re-quote imported metal items after every tariff change. Hose in chapter 39 and domestic stock are insulated from Section 232 metal tariffs. Imported steel duct is not.
- Send a complete spec. Diameter, length per drop, dust type, temperature, combustible or not, and quantity per size. We quote within 24 hours on business days.
🎯Manufacturer Recommendation
The part of this market that moves fastest is also the part the reports ignore: grounded, abrasion-resistant hose at machine drops, bought repeatedly and increasingly driven by DHA findings rather than new construction. Stock PU and PVC hose in 1-16 inch ships from Brookshire, TX in 1-3 business days with no minimum. Custom diameters, walls and colors run 7-10 business days from 10 coils (330 ft) per size. See the industrial hose range or request a quote for your drop list.
